    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Built in 1909, the 10-story St. Anthony Hotel lives up to its designation as a National Historic Landmark. The grand front portico has floor-to-ceiling doors with original lighting fixtures. The lobby has white-marble floors and is replete with French Empire antiques and original paintings by noted artists Remington, Cartier, and DeYoung. A curved white wrought-iron staircase and 8-foot crystal chandeliers add further grandeur. The hotel's clientele of mostly families and vacationers mingles with groups celebrating special occasions. Celebrities and dignitaries traveling through town often choose the St. Anthony and can be spotted in the lobby or restaurant.

Amenity highlights: Dining options include the casually elegant Madrid Room, serving Southwestern and Continental cuisine, and Pete's Pub, offering fine spirits and light fare in a Victorian setting. The hotel's large pool, spa tub, and sundeck overlook San Antonio. The rooftop Starlight Terrace is a popular wedding spot, and the hotel offers 22,000 square feet of event and meeting space. High-speed Internet access is available in all public areas and guestrooms (fee).

Insider tip: A black-and-white photo outside Pete's Pub shows Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire, and Rita Hayworth visiting the St. Anthony Hotel. Other great photos in the lobby include a snapshot of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, and one of John Wayne taken during the filming of The Alamo. The guest register reveals famous signatures from cattle barons to celebrities.

This 10-floor hotel has a large pool on a sunny terrace with a view of the city. Plenty of towels and lounge chairs are available for guests' use. Just off the deck, a mirrored fitness center offers cardio equipment and a TV. The hotel's gift shop sells sundries as well as souvenirs and jewelry.
